GAME TWO BOXSCORE
Hackensack, NJ (April 12, 2005)- Liz Strein belted a grand slam and Kristin Gelsleichter twirled a complete game shutout to lead Manhattan to a 5-0 win at FDU. The Knights posted a 7-6 win in the first game.
In the first game, the Knights took an early, 1-0, lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, before Manhattan plated one in the top of the second on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Kerry Cook brought home Kiera Fox to knot the score at 1-1.
Manhattan grabbed a 3-1 lead after Jennifer McCracken belted a two-run homer, driving in Stefanie Gozdziewski, who led off the top of the third with a single.
FDU brought the deficit to one with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. A Fox solo blast in the fifth, and another in the seventh made the score 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. The two homer day gave her six for the season, equaling her career-high. Unfortunately, the Knights rallied for three in the bottom of the frame to send the game into extra innings.
The Lady Jaspers scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead, but the Knights loaded the bases with one out and a double brought home two for the win.
Jill Medea went the distance, striking out nine.
In the second game, Liz Strein belted a grand slam, the first round tripper of her collegiate career, for a 4-0 Manhattan lead. Michelle Gutierrez brought home the fifth run with an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring McCracken, also in the top of the third to account for all the scoring.
Gelsleichter went the distance for her first shutout of the season, scattering seven hits while tallying five strikeouts.
Manhattan gets back in action on Thursday, April 14, when the Lady Jaspers travel to Albany, NY to take on the University at Albany Great Danes in a double header slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
