Washington, DC (March 6, 2005)- Manhattan scored two runs in the sixth to tie the score, and three runs in the top of the eighth, and held off a George Washington rally to advance to the championship game of the GW Colonial Classic, defeating the host school, 5-4, in eight innings.
The Colonials got on the scoreboard first, plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth before the Lady Jaspers began their comeback.
In the Manhattan sixth,
Jennifer McCracken doubled home
Liz Strein and
Kiera Fox plated McCracken with an RBI double to knot the score at 2-2.
In the eight inning, the international tiebreaker was used, as each team would start the inning with a runner on second. In the Manhattan eighth, Tina Buyea broke the tie, plating Srein with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Michelle Gutierrez then drive home McCracken with an RBI single before
Erika Kostik plated the Lady Jaspers' third run of the inning with an RBI double, chasing home Fox.
In the bottom of the eighth, George Washington scored twice and had the tying run on second with two outs, but
Jill Medea caught the final batter looking for a game-ending strikeout.
Strein (2-4, 2 runs), McCracken (3-4, 2 runs, RBI), and Fox (2-4, run, RBI) paced the Manhattan attack. Medea went the distance for the win, tallying 11 K's.
