Hempstead, NY (March 22, 2005)- Manhattan knotted the score at 1-1 in the fifth inning, but was unable to complete the upset, falling to Hofstra, 5-1, this afternoon at Hofstra Softball Stadium.
Manhattan threatened in the top of the third. Kerry Cook was hit by a pitch with one out, and advanced all the way to third on an error by the Hofstra catcher, but was throws out at home when
Liz Strein attempted to bunt her home.
The Pride opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on an RBI double, but the Lady Jaspers were able to score the equalizer in the top of the fifth.
Marina Ysaac drew a one out walk, and promptly stole second. After the second out was recorded, the Pride shortstop committed a throwing error on a ball off the bat of
Stefanie Gozdziewski, and Ysaac came around to score the tying run.
Hofstra was able to plate two in the fifth on a two run homer, and two more insurance runs in the sixth to provide the final margin.
Jill Medea went the distance for Manhattan, striking out five.
