Miami, FL (March 11, 2005)- Tulsa downed Manhattan, 6-0, in the first game of the Blue and Gold Coca-Cola Classic on the Florida International campus.
Tulsa got on the board first, plating a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Lindsey Tower. Catcher Tina Buyea ended the threat by throwing out a runner attempting to steal third to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, back-to-back home runs by Katie Torres and Sara Dyer extended the lead to 3-0.
Tulsa scored three more in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin.
Buyea, Kerry Cook,
Erika Kostik, and
Liz Strein all tallied hits for Manhattan.
Kristin Gelsleichter went the distance for the Lady Jaspers, posting three strikeouts.
The Lady Jaspers play again at 12 noon, taking on Quinnipiac.
