WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO HARTFORD HAWKS, 3-0

West Hartford, CT (September 17, 2004) - Women's soccer is blanked by the Hartford Hawks, 3-0 at Al-Marzook Field in Hartford, CT. With the loss the Lady J's drop to a 0-5-0 record and the Hawks improve to a 1-4-1 overall record.

The Hawk's Malin Engman didn't waste any time putting the Hawks on top, scoring only 1:36 into the contest. She took a feed from freshman Moa Lennartsson and beat Manhattan freshman goalkeeper Alicia DeFino (Mineola, NY) to the right post.

Engman's second goal came in the 28th minute on a ball served over the defense by Brooke Johns. Engman took the pass and volleyed it into the back of the net giving the Hawks a 2-0 advantage going into the half.

The Hawks had chances in the second half but couldn't put any away until Engman struck for the final time in the 77th minute. Teammate Katie Gardiner dribbled up the left side and chipped a ball into the box that found Engman alone in front of the keeper. She buried the shot into the back of the net making the final score, 3-0.

DeFino played the first half and made one save while allowing two goals. Junior Kiera Fox played the final 45 minutes in goal for the Jaspers and made two saves while allowing one goal. Hawk's goalkeeper Liz Cook was forced to make only two saves in recording the shutout.
