Orono, ME (September 7, 2003)- The University of Maine beat Manhattan College today with a score of 4-0 at Alumni Field in Orono, ME. The Lady Jaspers dropped their third straight game and fall to 0-3-0 on the season.
Freshman Katie Kuntz (Rockville Centre, NY), who started in goal for the injured Jeanne Marie Gilbert (East Northport, NY), and the Lady Jaspers were able to keep the Black Bears off the scoreboard in the first half despite being outshot 15-1. Maine broke through at the 55:41 mark when Kate Crawford scored off a cross from Heather Hathorn. The Black Bears added two more goals over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Kuntz, who recorded nine saves of the day, received a red card at the 76:13 mark while stopping a breakaway. Sophomore Cathy Mitchell (Windsor, CT) replaced Kuntz and stopped the ensuing penalty kick. Mitchell, who finished with two saves, allowed Maine's fourth goal at the 85:07 mark.
Tanya Adorno earned her second shutout of the season for the Black Bears who outshot the Lady Jaspers 34-1.
The Lady Jaspers play again on Friday, September 12 when they play University of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, FL at 6:00p.m.
